Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal from Scratch
There’s something comforting about a warm bowl of apple cinnamon oatmeal. As a child, I used to crave this breakfast food before school. It always made me feel cozy when I felt unsure about the day ahead. Now that I’m grown, I decided to create a from-scratch version; it’s even better than before!

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Recipe Inspiration
As I mentioned above, I’ve always loved apple cinnamon oatmeal. When I was a young girl my mom would whip up Quaker Oat packets for rushed mornings, but I also remember her making it from scratch a few times.
My love for this breakfast treat, mixed with a growing interest in breakfast from scratch here on the blog, led to this recipe. It’s got the perfect amount of apple chunks, honey, and cinnamon for a delicious healthy breakfast. I hope you love it as much as I do!

How to Make Ahead
If you need to make this recipe ahead, you can follow the instructions, let it cool, and then reheat it in the morning on the stovetop.
You can also eat it cold after it’s been cooked if you prefer. It will be similar to overnight oats.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup apple chunks with peel
- 2 Tbsp raw honey
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup milk (dairy or dairy-free)
- pinch of sea salt

Step-By-Step Instructions
- Slice and core an apple into small chunks, leave peel on.
- Add apples to a pot on medium heat (you can add 1 Tbsp of water if they begin to stick), and cook for 5 minutes or until apples are softened (skip this step if you like a little bit of texture).
- Add all other ingredients to the pot and cook for 10 minutes on medium heat until oats are soft.
- Serve and enjoy!
Leftovers and Storing Tips
Store cooled-down oatmeal in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge. You can freeze it for up to 3 months but I’m not sure how the texture or taste will be.
How to Serve
Serve this apple cinnamon oatmeal by itself or with slices of bacon, ham, or sausage. If you’re looking for an easy lunch this could be a great option as well as a meal when you’re feeling sick.
Variations
- Swap cinnamon for nutmeg for a warm, bold flavor.
- Use pure maple syrup instead of honey for a different sweetness.
- Add raisins or dried cranberries for a medley of flavors.

Delicious!!! Great for any meal of the day, so satisfying and filling.
I like to use apple cider (when in season) instead of a little water to cook the apples down.
Like Molly mentioned raisins and dried cranberries are delicious in it. Gives it another flavor added to it.
I like to add them with the apples.
I loved making this on a Saturday or Sunday morning for your brother and you. It made the house smell so wonderful.
