In our house, this recipe is a lunchtime staple. My husband and I work from home, meaning, lunchtime needs to be efficient. That’s how this sandwich was born. It’s the perfect quick and easy meal. The arugula gives it a delicious peppery taste that you’ll love!

Best Bagels for a Chicken Bagel Sandwich
The bagel texture pairs well with the sandwich contents. The best bagels for this recipe are plain. You can make them homemade, out of sourdough, or grab a package of them at the grocery store.

Regular vs Baby Arugula
If you’ve not tried arugula I 100% recommend using baby arugula. The flavor is mild and delicious. I use baby arugula for a soft, subtle peppery flavor and it always turns out delicious.

Best Chicken To Use
The chicken you use matters. It’s the center stage of this sandwich which means the taste and texture play a huge roll. To keep this recipe healthy, try a shaved deli chicken fresh from the grocery store’s deli counter.
Not all deli meat is the same. Don’t use the packages over in the refrigerated section. It will not taste the same. Look for a organic chicken at the deli counter with no added colors, nitrates, or sugars.

Alternative Spreads To Try
For this recipe, use plain cream cheese for a creamy flavor. Or for a tangy flavor add mustard or for heat add avocado chipotle mayonnaise.
Or try avocado mayonnaise or hummus for a dairy-free option. My personal favorite is the original cream cheese or chipotle mayo. The Primal Kitchen brand is my favorite, there’s zero additives, chemicals, or GMOs. It’s super good and healthy for you too!

Best Tips For Building This Sandwich
If you put the arugula on top of the chicken, you’ll have it falling out of your sandwich and onto your lap. Always put cream cheese on the top half of the bagel to prevent this from happening.
