This homemade honey watermelon sorbet is the perfect summer dessert! It’s made from scratch with 3 wholesome ingredients: fresh watermelon, raw honey, and sea salt. The sea salt brings out the fresh watermelon taste and complements the honey perfectly.
You can make it with or without an ice cream maker; the freezer works just fine! It’s the perfect hot-day dessert or a midday treat! This recipe includes a video tutorial so you can make it alongside me, step-by-step!

There’s something about watermelon desserts that just feels like summer! When I think of watermelon, I think of summer as a little girl. I think of my brother eating it by the pound, fishing at Grandma’s, and summer lunches.
Isn’t it funny how a simple food can have so many memories attached to it?! I love that! Anyway, I wanted to create a refreshing, fun summer treat that was simple to make with or without an ice cream machine. So the homemade honey watermelon sorbet was born. I hope you love it as much as we do!
Why You’ll Love this Watermelon Sorbet Recipe
- No Ice Cream Maker Needed: You can simply freeze this mixture instead of using an ice cream machine. You don’t need one but you can use one.
- Wholesome Dessert: With only 3 ingredients: sea salt, watermelon, and raw honey, you don’t have to worry about additives or junk in your sorbet.
- Sweetened with Honey: Instead of using sugar, I’ve added a touch of raw honey to bring out the sweetness of the watermelon.
- Perfect for Using Leftover Watermelon: If you have watermelon leftover, this is the perfect recipe to use it up and store for later.
- Full of Natural Flavor: This sorbet is made of fresh watermelon, no added flavors or colors!
- Dairy-Free Option: If you have a dairy allergy or sensitivity, this sorbet is the perfect cold treat!

What Does Honey Watermelon Sorbet Taste Like?
It tastes like a sweet, ripe watermelon! The pinch of sea salt brings out the watermelon’s natural flavors and the honey adds a little sweetness but not too much. It’s really refreshing and delicious!
The Difference Between Sorbet and Sherbet
Sorbet is dairy-free, while sherbet has a small amount of dairy, which gives it a smoother texture. Also, the sorbet has a refreshing taste, while the sherbet has more of a creamy, fruity flavor.
Molly’s Tips for Making Watermelon Sorbet
- Use an ice cream maker if you want a smoother texture. But if you don’t have one, add 1-2 tsp of lemon or lime juice to the mixture to help smooth it out.
- Adjust the amount of honey to your liking. If you like your sorbet sweeter, add more honey. If you like it less sweet, either add in less or remove it altogether.
- Don’t skip the pinch of sea salt; it really brings out the watermelon’s flavor.
- Use a seedless watermelon that is ripe for this recipe.
Choosing Watermelon for this Recipe
When choosing your watermelon for this recipe, you want to make sure it’s ripe and seedless. To pick out a ripe one, simply knock on the side. If it sounds deep and hollow, it’s ripe!
