This chantilly cream tastes so luxurious. The first time I whipped up a batch, I was experimenting with the ingredients, trying to find the perfect sweetness.

When I was finished, I topped some homemade hot chocolate with a few dollops to surprise my husband. He thought it was store-bought, woo hoo! Ever since, we’ve been hooked!

If you can’t have dairy, you can use any milk substitute of your choice. I also have a tasty coconut whipped cream recipe made from scratch without dairy. You still get that smooth, silky texture!

What is Chantilly Whipped Cream

Chantilly cream is a whipped cream flavored with vanilla and sweetened with sugar. The name Chantilly means whipped cream in French!

Why Make Homemade Whipped Cream at Home

Not only is making whipped cream from scratch fun, it’s so much better for you! When you use organic heavy whipping cream, pure vanilla extract, and pure cane sugar, you’re getting a wholesome treat! You don’t have to worry about the additives and excess sugars in the store-bought versions.

Difference Between Heavy Whipping Cream and Whipping Cream

The difference comes down to their milk fat. Heavy whipping cream has no less than 36% milk fat. While regular whipping cream has only 30%, making it lighter.

The higher percent of milk fat in heavy whipping cream helps it whip up which is exactly what you want for this recipe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use regular cream or half and half instead of heavy whipping cream?

No, you’ll want to use heavy whipping cream. It’s the key ingredient to make whipped cream.

Can I use organic heavy whipping cream?

Yes! That’s what I use. Just make a note that some organic brands whip up a little softer than others but they’re all good.

Can I use honey or maple syrup instead of cane sugar?

Of course. Substitute any sweetener of your choice.

How much sugar to add to whipping cream?

I like to add 1 Tbsp for every 1/2 cup. It’s the perfect amount of sweetness.

How do you whip cream?

You can use an electric stand or hand mixer or just a regular hand held whisk. It’s so simple!

Can whipped cream replace cool whip?

Yes, of course! This recipe is the perfect replacement, it makes 3 cups of whipped cream. That’s the same amount as a Cool Whip container. Homemade whipped cream not only tastes amazing, but you’re eliminating lots of additives and unnecessary amounts of sugar.

Can I pipe this whipped cream with piping tips?

This whipped cream isn’t great for pipping because it’s not stabilized. If you’d like to pipe whipped cream, try my stabilized whipped cream recipe!

Notes

If you’re having trouble whipping your cream try placing the bowl in the freezer for 10 minutes. Very cold cream whips up easier.
Just note different heavy whipping cream brands whip up differently. Some take a little longer to whip up, others take a less time.
