Watermelon is one of the most nostalgic foods of summer. When I think back to my childhood, there was always a watermelon on the counter or cubed in the fridge.

I’ve had a weird journey with this fruit, haha! When I was really little, my mom said I enjoyed it, but around seven years old, for some reason, I started not liking it. Fast forward to my 20s, and I’m in love with this sweet summer fruit again.

So I’ve developed this simple yet delicious lemonade that I hope you’ll love just as much as my husband and I do!

P.S. If you have a lot of watermelon leftover at the end of summer, you can make this recipe and freeze it! Then when you’re craving some watermelon lemonade, simply thaw overnight.

Molly’s Tips for Making this Recipe

  • Use a ripe, seedless watermelon to make this lemonade.
  • Use real lemons and squeeze the juice out of them; the flavor is much better.
  • When blending the watermelon, make sure it’s smooth like juice.
  • I highly recommend straining your watermelon juice to ensure there are no tiny seeds or fruit pieces left. I use a fine mesh strainer to do this.

Choosing the Best Watermelon for Lemonade

You’ll want to choose a ripe, seedless watermelon for this recipe. You can do a personal-sized watermelon or a large one. Either work just fine.

  • lemons: using real lemons makes a huge difference in the flavor

  • water: this just helps dilute everything to make it a drinkable texture
  • pure cane sugar: this is my favorite wholesome choice but you can also do regular sugar if you choose
